Building Update II
Yesterday, at Northgate, I announced the church’s commitment to provide $15,000 to our partner church in Ethiopia over the next six months to fund the building of a Compassion International kindergarten center. I’m so proud of this 14 month old church! We’re funding a building for “others” before we’re funding a building for “ourselves.” Also, Northgaters (yesterday) sponsored all 11 remaining Compassion International kids from our partner church, bringing the number of children sponsored by Northgaters to an even 100! There are still two families on our waiting list who would like to sponsor a kid in the near future. Pretty sweet!
So, then, what about Northgate’s building? (After all, that’s the real reason why you clicked on this blog post!) Well, let me just say that things are moving forward. Inch by inch, everything’s a cinch! Here’s an update.
- We are consulting with an architectural firm called Station 19 in Minneapolis (http://www.station19.com/). Station 19 has constructed more than 400 churches over the past 25 years. We’re grateful for their help. In fact, the experienced people at Station 19 commented that our building need projections are some of the "most conservative" they’ve ever seen. In other words, we’re not trying to build a Taj Mahal.
- We are exploring a number of properties and options in the area, including existing properties and land.
- We have put together a facilities dream team who is meeting regularly with Station 19.
- We are meeting with different fundraising consultants, trying to determine our giving potential for a capital campaign. Lots to learn!
Many Sundays at Northgate we have some 700 people in attendance, not to mention 100 plus kids and adults at Due North on Wednesday nights. We’re a REALLY big 14 month old church with a lot of people to house, which is a blessing and a challenge. For example, many existing properties are out of the question because of parking.
So, there’s an update. That’s all she wrote. Things are in process and we hope to have a number of ideas to share with you at our Vision Dinner on November 14 at the Fountains of Ramsey (details coming). Mark your calendars!
I’m grateful for you. . .
Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain (Psalm 127:1).
