Bring on Summer!

Enough already. While writing this during our most recent snowstorm, I’m now REALLY looking forward to summer. Barbeques, swimming, kids swarming the neighborhoods, all of it! How about you?

What I’m most excited about is to experience summer at Northgate. Our outdoor lake baptism at Lake George has become a highlight and I can’t wait to share and celebrate this day on June 21 with those making this commitments for the first time or for those affirming their baptisms from the past. I am praying for “ice-out”!

We’re also sending lots of kids to summer camp at Inspiration Point and hosting a camp for the first time, ON-SITE in our own building, this year. Our DUE NORTH Rapid City mission trip in June tripled in size from last year!

This will be the first summer we will be able to experience worship in our climate-controlled, state-of-the-art auditorium. Some of you probably wonder why we won’t have outdoor parking lot worship. Main reason—we’ve grown! By leaps and bounds, actually. To be great neighbors, we cannot have three weekend services outdoors. It would cause neighborhood mayhem!

“Could we have just one big service?” you ask.

In a perfect world, the answer is, “Yes”. But we live in Minnesota where the temperatures sometimes soar, and the winds and rains sometimes are strong enough to blow music stands across the parking lot or to electrocute the sound team. If we have to move indoors, we can seat about 500 or so and our summer crowds for one service will likely exceed that number so we need to offer a few options for people.

So, indoors for worship. However, we’re not going to let the summer get away from us! Each weekend we’re planning inflatables, games, refreshments, and MORE so that we can also enjoy the warm sunshine whenever possible! I’m thinking this might be our best summer ever!
