Family Fun Fest on Halloween

On October 31st, Northgate will not hold a Saturday night service—one week only. Instead, Northgate will host its second annual Family Fun Fest from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Obviously, we are not celebrating Halloween as a church. Also, we are not prioritizing Halloween over worship. Far from it. We’ll have two worship services on Sunday, November 1st.

The truth is, I don’t like Halloween all that much; however, our culture loves it. That’s why we’re hosting a not-so-spooky, not-at-all-evil, family friendly event on Halloween.

This kind of idea is nothing new. Christians have a long tradition of using cultural events to further the message of Jesus. For example, when Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, the church replaced many pagan holidays with Christian holidays. Also, throughout history, secular melodies and even bar tunes have been used as new settings for hymns. People like popular music! To quote Larry Norman, “Why should the devil have all the good music?” People enjoy Halloween and we want to leverage this opportunity to make Jesus known in our community!

I want YOU to be a part of it. Please VOLUNTEER (especially if you don’t have little kids) and INVITE a friend to Northgate this Halloween. Also, please bring CANDY next weekend (full-size if you can swing it). Finally, start PRAYING. Pray, pray, pray! Pray like crazy! Who knows? Maybe your friends will meet Jesus because of this event. It happened last year. It’ll very likely happen again.

Northgate Church is passionate about helping people become who God purposed them to be.
